THE SOCIETY SCREENING SERIES PRESENTS: MAD MEN

Back when smoke was smoke, men were men and copious amounts of liquor were consumed behind office doors, sexism still reigned in the workplace. Sexy secretaries were eager to please their sophisticated and charming bosses while their apron-wearing wives remained in the home, waiting with a honey ham and a stiff Manhattan to satisfy their hard-working husbands.
Harking on the success of the much talked about television series “Mad Men”, The Society is thrilled to be pre-screening episode 5 before it hits the network. To catch up on the series of scandals of the season, members who sign up will be sent episodes #1-4 prior to the screening night.
The show has had a ripple effect on Madison Avenue (the NYC epicentre of advertising) with one notable fan stating: "Mad Men" tells stories inside a fictitious New York agency, Sterling Cooper, that are about not only how the industry was five decades ago but also meatier subjects like the price of success and how far America has — or has not — come on issues like gender, race and religion. The New York Times describes it as “both a drama and a comedy and all the better for it, a series that breaks new ground by luxuriating in the not-so-distant past.”
Hosted by notable film critic Richard Crouse, The Society screening will conclude with a witty, intelligent and off-the-cuff panel discussion between well-respected and influential advertising industry executives while guests enjoy copious amounts of beer and scotch. The debonair Don Draper and his fellow men at Sterling Cooper Advertising Agency would certainly approve.

Dress Code: Come on, get in the spirit - prize for best dressed 50's exec or secretary! Please Note: if you purchase a ticket for a guest, their DVD set will be sent to your address unless otherwise noted
